Skip The Overseas Trip For Your Upcoming Family Holiday And Treat Your Family To A Staycation They’ll Remember In These Kid-Friendly Hotels In Kuala Lumpur & Selangor!
The weekend or school holidays are around the corner and you’re probably thinking of ways to take time off with the family. If you’ve already enjoyed a picnic with your little ones or braved the crowds at a theme park, it’s no surprise that you’re looking for something new and a little getaway sounds like just the right thing.
But between unpredictable flight delays, long airport queues, pricey air fare, and the ever-fluctuating ringgit, planning an overseas holiday with young children can feel more exhausting than exciting. And let’s be honest, sometimes it just isn’t worth the stress.
That’s where staycations come in. You get to experience the joys of being in a different environment without the hassle of airport transfers, passport dramas, and the hefty price of plane tickets. Imagine splashing around in tropical-themed pools, indulging in a lush breakfast buffet, or sneaking in a spa session while the kids are happily entertained at the children’s club.
That said, you can’t pop into just any hotel with a pool hoping for that kind of fun. Which is why we’ve curated a list of the top kid-friendly hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor that understand what parents need and what kids love.
Think family rooms, kid-friendly facilities, exciting children’s clubs, and food options that even little picky eaters will enjoy. Because when you’re aiming for a smooth, memorable family break, the last thing you want is to leave things to chance.
Top 13 Family-Friendly Hotels For A Memorable Family Vacation In Kuala Lumpur and Selangor

1. Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
If your idea of a family getaway involves blending the city’s energy with luxurious comfort, the city centre’s very own Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is one of my favourite recommendations. This luxurious hotel is equipped with spacious rooms that comfortably fit families of four and it is located right next to the KLCC Park and the Petronas Twin Towers.
Kids will love the hotel’s resort-style outdoor swimming pool and dedicated kid’s wading pool for splashing fun under the sun, but parents are strongly advised to keep watch as there is no lifeguard on duty. Not forgetting the buffet breakfast which includes almost everything families love from pancakes to nasi lemak, giving little picky eaters something to smile about.
Most parents I know who have enjoyed a staycation there with their little ones absolutely adore staying at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur because of the thoughtful amenities for children, the friendly staff who go out of their way to make the stay special for both the kids and parents, and the walking distance to the Suria KLCC Shopping Mall.

2. Imperial Lexis Kuala Lumpur
Kids just love swimming, don’t they? But sometimes the thought of hanging around the poolside along with other families feels like the last thing that tired parents want to do. Here’s where the ultra luxe Imperial Lexis Kuala Lumpur comes to play.
Kuala Lumpur’s latest hotel is one of the city centre’s most unique as each guestroom comes with its own private swimming pool which overlooks either the city skyline or the glistening Petronas Twin Towers. This very reason alone makes it the perfect choice for parents who want a quiet yet upscale city break without sacrificing on fun for their little ones.
However, there are certain nitty gritties that some parents have noticed over their stay here. For starters, the hotel does not encourage changing towels daily as part of their efforts to conserve the environment, and that the pool does not come equipped with a heater. But the latter should be no problem at all since Malaysia IS a hot and humid tropical paradise after all. ;)

3. Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur
The Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur has long been a trusted favourite for families with younger children thanks to its warm hospitality and child-friendly atmosphere. While it is nestled within the heart of the city, it lies tucked within the quieter parts which allows hotel guests the perfect balance of accessibility without sacrificing privacy.
Having said that, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s real treat for families lies not in its strategic spot nor its outdoor pool, but in its Family Premier Suite. This specially designed room features a separate living room and a private bedroom, with a kids tent in the living area complete with kid’s amenities.
And did you know that Family Premier Suite guests who are staying for the weekend are able to book weekend kids activities? So before you head off to enjoy the coffee house’s lavish buffet spread or a relaxing afternoon tea at the lobby lounge, don’t forget to sign your little ones up for activities like cupcake decorating, koi fish feeding, or a treasure hunt, so you can unwind peacefully with your other half!

4. Sunway Resort Hotel
Families who love endless rounds of excitement will truly enjoy what Sunway Resort Hotel offers. The fact that it is connected to the iconic Sunway Lagoon Theme Park makes it the perfect hotel for those who want fun without having to step far from their room.
Think water park, amusement rides, a wildlife park, and even extreme sports like ATV rides, go kart races, and even the opportunity to descend from higher ground via the flying fox! Theme park aside, kids can also enjoy frolicking about the resort-style swimming pool with its signature waterfall feature and fun splash zone called the Waterventure.
Dining sessions are a relaxing affair for parents since kids have a dedicated dining area equipped with colourful little chairs and tables for them to enjoy meals with other children or their own siblings. Last but not least, there’s the fun Wonderland Kids Club which encourages the concept of “funducational”, where science-themed interactive programmes are held for kids to enjoy!

5. Hotel Olympic
Looking for a budget-friendly staycation in the city center so you can also take the kids out on a fun day of exploration? Then you’ll want to check out Hotel Olympic.
This underrated hotel boasts vibrantly colourful, sports-themed interiors and walking distance to the famous Petaling Street and Central Market, making it ideal for families who want a fuss-free staycation that is easy on the wallet.
I highly recommend booking the Junior Suite as it comes with a playhouse bunk bed (think dollhouse, but larger than life with a wall climbing feature) and a large flat screen TV so your kids can enjoy hours of fun amongst themselves or watch cartoons while mom and dad unwind.

Do bring along your OiYO Lunch Stacker and Lunch Bag to pack some delicious treats for the family as you all explore Petaling Street and the shops of Central Market!

6. PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur
Eco-conscious families seeking a staycation experience that lies in between budget and luxury will find that the PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur ticks all the right boxes.
It’s a stylishly revamped hotel boasting a sleek design that promises comfort, and it’s found along Jalan Sultan Ismail, next to Bukit Bintang’s Lot10 and directly opposite the Sungei Wang Plaza.
Location aside, what makes the PARKROYAL COLLECTION a hit amongst parents are their Signature Family Suite’s themed rooms. Parents can choose from four exciting themes that will definitely get their younger kids beaming from ear to ear, be it the Sky Wanderer theme, Enchanted Sweets, Journey in the Wild, or Choo Choo Train themed room.
Each themed room features bunk beds, a fun play area to keep the kids entertained, and a stunning view of the city for the whole family to enjoy, complete with bath amenities specially designed for kids. But that’s not the end of it. There are fun kid activities and afternoon tea sets specially tailored for both parents and kids to indulge on as well!

7. M Resort & Hotel
This one is a personal favourite whenever I’m looking for a quiet staycation away from the city centre and possible tourist hot spots. The M Resort & Hotel is a peaceful hideaway that overlooks the Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam’s golf course, so imagine the tranquility you and your other half will feel upon waking up in a spacious room to the sight of vast green fields.
One of this hotel’s biggest hits is its free-form swimming pool. It’s cleverly designed with a large “hive”-shaped water slide that will see your little ones coming back for more, private pockets of jacuzzis that parents can lounge in, and a gradually deeper area for parents who want to get some aquatic exercise in before a lavish buffet dinner or a relaxing spa at the M Spa.
The fun does not end there because the M Resort & Hotel also has their very own Kid’s Club with countless fun activities for kids throughout the week. Think arts and craft sessions from bracelet making to lantern crafting, colouring sessions, movie screenings, and interactive games.

8. Four Points by Sheraton KLCC
Families who want to explore the heart of the city on foot as part of their staycation would enjoy the centrally located Four Points by Sheraton KLCC (not to be confused with Four Points at Chinatown!).
This refreshingly modern hotel is a new contender in Kuala Lumpur’s hotel scene, especially when it comes to family hotels, giving both locals and visitors an affordable option to stay a stone’s throw away from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and Suria KLCC Mall. This also means that you can bring the kids for a fun Aquaria or Petrosains Discovery Centre outing!

The hotel boasts a sprawling swimming pool that is shared between Four Points and its partner hotel, the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Convention Centre, an outdoor playground, and an indoor playroom for kids to enjoy hours of endless fun.
Parents also appreciate the dedicated kid’s club along with the Family Suite which comes equipped with whimsically designed bunk beds, a play tent, and even a cot for the family’s youngest toddlers.

9. DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside
There are times where city living gets dreary. That’s where DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside comes in as a firm favourite for families who want a mini getaway around nature and water as it is located nearby tranquil parks such as the Anjung Floria public park and Putrajaya Botanical Gardens for families to really immerse themselves in nature.
DoubleTree’s signature hospitality trait in serving warm chocolate chip cookies to guests as they check-in is also well-loved by families with little children - find me a child who doesn’t love a good ol’ warm chocolate chip cookie!
That said, the hotel is well-equipped with a huge pool and sandy beach area to mimic the atmosphere of a beach resort. But that’s not the only attraction here! There is also a mini water park for kids to splash around and enjoy round after round on the water slides.
If Malaysia’s unpredictable weather takes a downturn, families can also opt to bring their little ones to the children’s playroom which contains a range of toys and books to keep them occupied for hours.

10. Cyberview Resort & Spa
Tucked deep within Cyberjaya is none other than the Cyberview Resort & Spa. This underrated resort is a hidden gem for families seeking quiet time in a villa-style staycation surrounded by greenery.
Even though it does not have a waterpark unlike its close contender, the DoubleTree hotel in Putrajaya, Cyberview Resort & Spa does have its own signature bits. For one, the resort is built around a peaceful pool that looks like it was transported all the way from Bali. Think waterfall, poolside hammocks, and almost direct access to the poolside via the villas on-site.
The resort also offers various activities for family members of all ages, from cycling to lake fishing, board games, and even a visit to the iconic Sembunyi Spa. But ultimately, parents love this place because of its spacious rooms, gigantic bathtubs, serene landscape, and the resort’s laid back vibe.

11. M World Hotel (Previously AVANTÉ Hotel)
Retail therapy-loving families may find comfort in staying at the M World Hotel for their next staycation. It’s away from the bustling city centre, yet conveniently located right next to the 1Utama Shopping Centre, which makes it perfect for families who enjoy mall-based entertainment.
Think seamless access to 1 Utama’s indoor rock-climbing Camp5 Climbing Gym, FlowRider indoor surfing zone, and countless shopping and dining options in one of Malaysia’s largest malls. The M World Hotel’s rooms are also cosy and modern, each decorated vibrantly to add a touch of fun to the staycation experience.
And the best parts? Free parking and a dedicated Kiddies Club that is filled with countless toys, a ball pit, indoor slides, and engaging Montessori toys for the tinier little ones in the family!

12. Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur
Looking for a little indulgence in the city that also caters to the little ones in the family? Then a staycation at the Mandarin Oriental is just what you’re after. The Mandarin Oriental is a five-star hotel located right next to the KLCC Park and Petronas Twin Towers which is ideal for families who want a blend of iconic city views, top-tier service, and easy access to retail therapy (this is especially handy when you want to walk off a scrumptious buffet at the hotel's famous Mosaic buffet restaurant!).
Kids will absolutely love the hotel’s outdoor pool which features a wading area while parents can lounge on one of the many shaded cabanas that surround the pool. The hotel’s dedicated kid’s club, also known as the Little Explorer Club, offers little ones various activities via a daily activities calendar and these are all complimentary for hotel guests.

Bonus Tip: Did you know that kids up to the age of 4 get to access a complimentary buffet dining experience at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur?
But if these are not enough, don’t forget that you can always bring your kids for some fun under the sun at the KLCC Park’s playground and waterpark which is literally next door!

13. St. Regis Kuala Lumpur
Impeccable bespoke service, fine foods, and tastefully decorated rooms await at the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur for families seeking to immerse themselves in luxury without leaving the country.
It’s one of the rare hotels in Kuala Lumpur that offer a dedicated butler service to hotel guests, a full-sized walk-in wardrobe, an outdoor saltwater pool which is believed to offer a more comfortable experience over chlorinated pools, and they even provide kids’ amenities and activity kits upon request!
Parents often rave about how they feel safe to leave their kids to have their own fun in the hotel’s kids’ club, where storytelling sessions, arts and craft activities, and games are organised. This seemingly minute but significant attention to detail is a crucial bit here, because it allows tired mums and dads a rare chance to enjoy quality time amongst themselves while the kids are well cared for and entertained.
